Childrens Book Clubs

What do childrens book clubs have to offer? Why are they becoming so popular? Why would you wish to sign up with a childrens book club for your own child, or as a gift for another child? (If you are in a hurry, try the links at the left to see a popular chldren's book club.)

Let's try to answer those questions.

First, childrens book clubs give children a head start, by introducing them to the top books on offer. Part of the problem parents or relatives have is in selecting really appropriate books from the vast range available in stores. Some books are of course much better than others. Another problem you may have when selecting books for children is finding age-appropriate books. The age of the child determines what level of book they can appreciate (usually, unless the child is exceptionally bright) and it is not always obvious from a book's jacket what age level the book is aimed at.

Childrens book clubs deal with both of these issues, because the books on offer a preselected for their value to children, and because they are offered in age-bands. The best clubs will have their books classified in age bands, like 0-2, 2-4, 4-6, 6-9, 9-12 and so on, so the issue of finding top-class and appropriate books is taken care of for you.

In addition, book clubs are well aware of what the popular trends are in childrens books, both in terms of subject matter and in terms of authors who are in fashion, so the books available are usually what children want to read the most.

Most of the top childrens book clubs cover bestsellers, the well-known classics, and newly popular authors. Book club membership gifts are popular because reading gives children knowledge and confidence, helps their education, and entertains them at the same time.
